Aloha and welcome to E-103! I am so excited to be here at Waikoloa School. More importantly, I am so LUCKY to be your child’s 1st-grade teacher! It’s going to be a fun year full of learning and new adventures. I cannot wait to see what the year has in store for us. Please download the ParentSquare app to ensure you won't miss out on the excitement and latest events in E-103!

Mahalo,

Field Trip Tomorrow

This is just a friendly reminder that tomorrow, March 12th is our field trip. Make sure your child comes to school on time with their lunch and closed-toe shoes (a mandatory requirement for field trips). Any student without closed-toe shoes or who comes to school late will have to miss the field trip.  ~Ms. Barsetti

Update

My DonorsChoose grant was fully funded and the materials should be arriving next week! In addition, a few donors gave me gift certificates to start another project! I’m thinking about getting different STEM activity kits. I’ll keep you posted.

The students had fun for Dr. Seuss week and during Field Day today. Take a look at our albums.

Next week is Spirit Week. Monday starts the week off with Pajama Day!

On Tuesday, we will go on our field trip to ‘Imiloa. Please make sure your children get to school on time with their lunches and closed-toe shoes.

DonorsChoose.org Project

It has always been my preference to have students working at tables instead of desks. I'm going to see what's available in storage. Cross your fingers! If we don't have any, I'll ask if we have the funds to purchase them. My last resort will be to put in another DonorsChoose.org project.

In the meantime, I'm starting the process of getting a variety of cozy seating options for the classroom. Please help spread the word for my Flexible Seating for a Collaborative Classroom.

Thanks for all you do,
Ms. Barsetti

Update

Aloha!

Today, I sent home a packet for our upcoming field trip to 'Imiloa Astronomy Center in Hilo. Please fill out the form and return by Tuesday, February 26th. It is free for students! If you would like to be a chaperone, please fill out the chaperone forms and return them with your child. Please note that chaperones are responsible for their own transportation and entrance fee.

On Thursday, February 14th we will have a card exchange for Valentine's Day. I sent home a list of names today. Please have all cards/valentines filled out before sending them to school on Thursday. We will not have time during the day to do it. Treats in a gift bag or wrapped are welcomed!

Have a great day off tomorrow,
Ms. Barsetti

The students have been working on identifying polygons and today they used geoboards to create them! Ask your child which polygon(s) he or she created.

Report Cards

Report cards will go home in the Thursday envelopes. I will also be sending their quarter two portfolios. Take a look at all the work they’ve done! If you have any questions, please feel free to call or email me. ~Ms. Barsetti

Yesterday, the students planned and sketched their bird feeder prototypes before building them! They had an exciting time with this process.

Mahalo for attending parent-teacher conferences. We had a great turnout! Also, take a look at the 18-19 Halloween album that I just uploaded!

Halloween 10/31

Tomorrow, the students are allowed to wear their Halloween costumes. However, they cannot wear masks or bring weapons. I will present a Mystery Science lesson on the human skeleton and the students will complete an art project aligned to it! Students who do not celebrate Halloween will be provided an alternative learning activity.
