Aloha and welcome to E-103! I am so excited to be here at Waikoloa School. More importantly, I am so LUCKY to be your child’s 1st-grade teacher! It’s going to be a fun year full of learning and new adventures. I cannot wait to see what the year has in store for us. Please download the ParentSquare app to ensure you won't miss out on the excitement and latest events in E-103!

Open House

This is just a friendly reminder that Open House is tomorrow from 2-3pm. Stop in to see our classroom!

Aloha,

We had a fabulous first week in first grade! Ask your child what was his or her favorite thing in school this week besides recess!

Just a reminder, PE starts on Monday. Please send your child in sneakers.

Have a great weekend,
Ms. Barsetti

First Day of First Grade

Today was a success! We got to know one another, took a school tour, completed our first math and science lessons, did a little review in reading, and started our social contract. I can tell it's going to be a great year!

Students have their Thursday Envelopes in their backpacks. You will notice that there's a binder clip with all the papers that need to be filled out and returned to me. Please have it completed by Friday, August 9th.

Mahalo to all the family members who were able to help me sort your child's school supplies. It saved me a lot of time this morning!

See you tomorrow,
Ms. Barsetti

P.S Don't be surprised if your children go to bed early tonight. The first day back from summer break is a long one!

Ho'olaule'a

Last week I sent home a note about Ho'olaule'a dress attire. Just as a reminder, please have your child wear a white top and dark bottoms.

When performing, our class will be facing the Kona side and they will be on opposite side of the upper field from our classroom.

We will not be under tents to shade us from the sun and heat. Please send a water bottle with ice and apply sunscreen before sending your children to school.

For our new families, most families sign their children out after Ho'olaule'a and have a family day.

Starseed Ranch Field Trip

Just a reminder that we will be going on our field trip tomorrow. Please note the following:
  • Students must be in the classrooms by 7:55a.m. (If students are tardy, they will spend the day in another teacher's classroom.
  • Bring your own lunch and water. (label your child's water bottle)
  • Wear old clothes (long pants and t-shirt, students will be working in the dirt)
  • Wear sneakers or other closed-toe shoes (Students will not be allowed to go on the field trip if they are wearing slippers or sandals.)
  • Bring a jacket and a hat.
  • Apply sunscreen at home.

Mahalo for all the sweet notes, drawings, flowers, fruit, and plants for Teacher Appreciation Week! ~Ms. Barsetti

Library Books

All library books are due this Friday, May 17th. Please return as soon as possible. I will be sending home a note with students who still have books checked out.

Lockdown Drill and Off Campus Evacuation

We are having a lockdown drill and an off campus evacuation on Monday, April 22nd. Please have your child wear closed-toe shoes. Thanks! ~Ms. Barsetti

Power Outage

Thank you to all the parents and family members who helped pick up your children with our unexpected early dismissal. After the last student was picked up, I went back to the classroom and the power came back on. Go figure!

Have a great three day weekend!
~Ms. Barsetti

Today in math, they learned about prisms. After their lesson, they created them and other 3D shapes using our new STEM manipulatives and playdough with toothpicks!
Both of my DonorsChoose grants were fully funded! We have already received and started using the various seating options and the STEM construction engineering manipulatives and circuit kits. Ask your children about them!

2nd DonorsChoose Project

I created a new project with DonorsChoose to get additonal STEM resources and it was fully funded! We'll receive the materials at the end of this week or during Spring Break.
