Aloha and welcome to E-103! I am so excited to be here at Waikoloa School. More importantly, I am so LUCKY to be your child’s 1st-grade teacher! It’s going to be a fun year full of learning and new adventures. I cannot wait to see what the year has in store for us. Please download the ParentSquare app to ensure you won't miss out on the excitement and latest events in E-103!

Family History Project

Please remember that the Family History project is due on Monday. I'm looking forward to their presentations! Mahalo to those who have already turned it in:)

Students are continuing to learn how to research various topics aligned to the themes in our Reading Wonders curriculum.
Our class is participating in the Operation Christmas Child. If you are able, please consider donating to this worthy cause. You can send your donations with your child at any time! Mahalo for your consideration!

Reminders

Please turn in any unsold Big Island Candies tickets and/or money tomorrow, September 4th. Also, the federal survey that is in your child's Thursday Envelope needs to be completely filled out and returned ASAP. Mahalo for your support!

Last week we did our first research group project! Students were given a text on an animal and then they had to decide if that animal would make a good pet. The final product was a poster collage to show their hard work with the topic!

STAR Reading Test

The students will be taking their first STAR reading test of the year tomorrow! Please make sure they go to bed early and eat a healthy breakfast in the morning.

We learned about Roman art known as mosaics. Ask them about the volcano Mt. Vesuvius and Pompeii, Italy!

Open House 2015-2016

Our Open House is this Wednesday from 2-3pm. Come take a look at our classroom, your child's work, and curriculum. I can also answer any questions at this time as well! Hope to see you on Wednesday! ~Ms. Barsetti

Welcome to the New School Year!

Our class has been off to a fantastic start. They have worked hard these past few days creating classroom rules, learning our new routines, working in groups, and practicing for fire drills. When our class makes good decisions or shows positive actions, they earn a gumball towards a gumball party. I cannot believe how quickly the gumball machine is filling up! It's only day four and it's almost half full! Encourage your children to keep up the hard work!

A Hui Hou!

We had a great last day of school! After attending an assembly and watching a movie, we had an award ceremony. The students walked down the "red carpet" to receive their awards. We watched a slideshow with music to recap our year of hard work and dedication. Students laughed and cried, but had fun reflecting on the year. To celebrate, we at popcorn and danced! Check out our album "2014-2015 End of the Year Award Ceremony". I hope everyone has a safe and fun summer break! A hui hou! ~Ms. Barsetti
