Aloha and welcome to E-103! I am so excited to be here at Waikoloa School. More importantly, I am so LUCKY to be your child’s 1st-grade teacher! It’s going to be a fun year full of learning and new adventures. I cannot wait to see what the year has in store for us. Please download the ParentSquare app to ensure you won't miss out on the excitement and latest events in E-103!

As students are becoming more responsible, they are being allow more choices within the day. During math, they picked their own partner and spot in the room to complete the journal page!
After learning about how a seed can travel halfway around the world, students explored and flew their own seed to see if it could avoid the "zone of darkness"!

Aloha Parents and Families,

I will have a sub for Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. I will be attending a DIBELS (early literacy assessments) training on Oahu for Tuesday and Wednesday. On Thursday, I will be on campus but in an all-day meeting sharing what I learned with our RTI (Response to Intervention) Team. Please remind your children to continue to show respect, work hard, and follow directions.

Also, our class has been working hard and finally earned their last gumball for our "Chew Gum All Day" party. Students will be allowed to bring one pack of gum on Friday, September 2nd.

Mahalo,
Ms. Barsetti

Science Homework

The students were sent home with their radish root viewers. On Friday, please have your children observe and record what they see on their science sheet. Return the sheet and cd case on Monday, August 22nd. Mahalo!

I will be using the Daily 5 framework for centers. When students are not working in a small group with me, they will be independently working in the following centers: Read to Self, Read to Someone, Listen to Reading, and Word Work. The fifth Daily 5, Work on Writing, will be done during our writing block. All centers are research-based and it will allow me to differentiate for specific student needs. Today, we worked on building our reading stamina. Our end goal is 20 minutes of independent reading and currently, they are at ten minutes!
