Allllllllllll aboard!!!!! This is the front engine of our reading train. Let's see how many train cars we can put behind it before Wednesday the 29th!

After just one day of our reading challenge, Mr. Blackburns students have already read 59 books at home! I have no doubt we can reach our goal, and perhaps set a new record! Keep up the great reading!

Hopefully you've seen some reading folders like these coming home with your child. So far the response has been pretty good. The kiddos seem to like bringing books home to read and most of them are being returned the very next day.  Please remember to make sure the books get put back in the folders as I do have a limited supply.  Mahalo for your support in getting some exta reading practice with our first grade readers!

Thanksgiving

It is hard to believe it is already this time of year.  Wow!  I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving day.  I often reflect on the many things that I am thankful for.  One of those things is the opportunity to have a job that I love, to be a teacher.  Despite the challenges and sometimes tough days, I really do love what I do.  The biggest reason for that, is the kids.  I'm thankful for such a great group of students to work with in my classroom.  As a new father (Brodie is over 8 months old now!) I am gaining an even better understanding of the work that goes into raising a child.  So, at the end of this Thanksgiving weekend, I must also give thanks to you, the parents and families of these young children.  I truly believe that you are the greatest educators of the children.  Mahalo for all that you do!  See below for a few pictures of some great kiddos.

Science!

Students in room E-104 have been getting some great hands on experience with metamorphosis.  Students have been taking care of mealworms and observing them go through 3 out of their 4 stages of metamorphosis (egg, larva, pupa, adult).  Check the posts below for some pictures of some of our scientists hard at work.
