These students worked hard this afternoon by reading, discussing what they read, and writing about what they read. Ask them how children around the world are different.
Connecting Literacy and Art- After listening to the story There Was a Cold Lady Who Swallowed Some Snow, the students created a snowman from the perspective of looking down on it from above. Ask your children what happened in the story and how they created the snowman.

Field Trip Form(s) and Money Due 12/15/14

Dear 2nd Grade ‘Ohana,

We are planning a field trip to Imiloa Center in Hilo on Friday, January 30, 2015. On the trip we will be watching an IMAX film and participating in hands-on learning activities. Along the way we will be observing local micro-climates and recording in our science journal.

We will be requiring 6 parent chaperones per class. I have a couple more openings. Please return bottom portion of letter that was sent home along with the student form, money, and parent chaperone Drug Free School form by Monday, December 15th. Admission is $10.00 for adults and $7.00 for students, cash only. Chaperones will be chosen on a first come basis. Chaperoning is a big responsibility. Be prepared to stay with your group at all times. No additional siblings are allowed.

Due to the long distance involved in traveling to Hilo, there may be a possibility that we return home after the 2:10 bell. Thanks for your understanding.

Reminders:

  • For day of field trip, students and chaperones must be present in their classroom by 7:30 a.m.
  • Students are required to bring a home lunch and make sure that all items are disposable, including water bottle and bag, due to limited space.
  • Students must wear closed-toe shoes.
  • A jacket is recommended due to air conditioning.

Mahalo,

Ms. Barsetti

STAR Testing

Our class will be taking the STAR reading test on Tuesday, December 2nd. They will take the STAR math test on Tuesday, December 9th. Both tests will be given first thing in the morning. Please be on time to school.

Tips for Testing:
  • Make sure they go to bed early the night before.
  • Provide a healthy breakfast in the morning.
  • Remind them to do their best.

We finished painting our Warm and Cool Corn art pieces for Thanksgiving! The students loved working with the huge format and paint!
