Streever, Ms. » Welcome!!!

Welcome!!!

Aloha!

About Me: I am a preschool special education teacher at Waikoloa this year. While this is only my 2nd year teaching at Waikoloa, I have been a certified teacher for over 10 years, and have worked in the education field for over 25 years. Nine of those years were as a preschool special education teacher on the mainland. In addition, I am dual-certified in both general and special education in the state of Hawaii for preschool-3rd grade, and have a Master's Degree in Early Childhood from Syracuse University in New York State. In my free time, I love swimming, snorkeling, going to farmer's markets, and spending time with friends, neighbors, and family (when they visit!).

Classroom Management Plan: In general, my classroom management plan will start with teaching the kids the daily routine and schedule, preparing them for transitions, and by going over the rules/behavioral expectations daily/formally at large group/circle time, and then again as needed throughout the day. There are pictures to go along with behavioral expectations (eyes watching, ears listening, voices quiet [for instructional time], bodies calm, raise hand, clean-up/put materials away, keep hands to self, gentle touches), so that the children will have a visual to go along with the verbal instruction and reminders. Please be aware that corporal punishment is NEVER implemented. We will teach the children to use their words when conflict occurs, and children will be supported by an adult to work out conflicts with their peers.

Daily Schedule/Routine: The order may change, but in general, the daily routine will consist of the following elements:
Arrival
Independent Work (while waiting for students to wash hands)
Transition
Large Group Instruction/Circle Time (greeting, calendar/counting, music, movement, going over daily routine, expectations, and safety rules)
Transition
Centers/Small Group Instruction
  • Centers will consist of blocks, legos, other hands-on activities and manipulatives, art, writing, book nook, and sensory/discovery centers
  • Small Groups will consist of the teacher (myself), working with a small group of students on literacy and math lessons/activities
Transition/Clean-up
Circle Time
Recess
Dismissal
