While reading the book Walk Two Moons, we talked about all the different settings in the book and then we decided to write about our own favorite setting. It was an impromptu and fantastic lesson!!! My favorite setting is relaxing in our livingroom with my family: my husband, son, our son's girlfriend, our three cats, and our dog. I love that setting and feel so thankful whenever we are all together. :)
Our school is focusing on reading strategies and reading comprehension this quarter. To reinforce our goal, I had my 6th graders use nine different reading strategies to practice with our class novel, Walk Two Moons. THIS lesson packet was a hit!!! Students worked with partners and small groups, and the collaboration and conversations were fantastic! I love it when lessons turn out like this. :)
Reywill and Shane, I am so proud of your creativity, your enthusiasm, and the positive fun you bring to our class. Thank you!
Students are reading the book Walk Two Moons with partners or in small groups, and I love how these boys found a comfy place to work together! They were a great team. Thank you Jeremy, Lopaka, Adam, and Willy ... :)
Our 7th graders are preparing to advertise their original-new-products to their classmates. I'm excited to see what Shane and Reywill come up with. Looks pretty awesome! We'll find out Friday ... Good work 7th graders!!! Remember to tell us what two advertising techniques you used.
Our awesome 7th graders are reading a TeenBiz article and doing an activity about it. The Achieve Company tells us that when students do two activities a week at their TeenBiz level they can raise their Lexile level and improve their reading comprehension skills. I think this is a program students ought to take advantage of along with silent reading the book of their choice at least three times a week! :)
I'm so proud! Gavin Moore designed a board game and brought it to school to share with our Advisory class. Our class loves it! In this picture he is playing his game with Kaulana, Matthew, and Xander. Gavin says that when he grows up he wants to design board games for a living. Awesome! Our Positive Action lessons tell us to follow our passions and dreams and that we are never too young to start making plans on how to reach them. Thank you fou sharing your passion with us, Gavin!
Welcome to third quarter where we ALL have a fresh start. :) I love how our 3rd quarter goal sheets turned out. Students wrote down their STAR reading results so far, their current TeenBiz Lexile score, their quarter grade and semester percentages and then they made goals for all of them. Plus, they made a specific goal for language arts. I am in heaven!!! There's nothing like knowing exactly where you are and where you're going.

Happy New Year!
Shiro, your voice is amazing! Keep singing for all of us, and then go out and share your talents with the world. You are very inspiring...
