Chipper did a fabulous job on presenting his Missing Poster on Hermes. He absolutely made my day with his energy, preparedness, and including fun missing clues so his classmates could guess. Talk about and engaging the audience! Way to go, Chipper!
This is a big shout-out to all of our parents! I really enjoyed talking to you at Parent Conferences. If you couldn't make it, I mailed you everything I shared. Your child is your whole world, and I love being a team with you both. It truly means a lot to me. When we work together, great things can happen! Call or email me anytime about anything ...

Student+Parent+Teacher=A Great Team Where Magic Can Happen!
Spirit Week is SO much fun! Thank you for posing for my camera, Jayston and Matthew!! Love your participation!
Spirit Week+Participation=Fun!

We are reviewing the elements of stories … exposition, inciting incident, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution along with theme, point of view, figurative  language, and more! After we put these all together with practice, read amazing myths (7th) and short stories (6th), the students will use their creative imaginations to write their own myths (7th) and short stories (6th) and they will be AMAZING!

Homework is for students to be reading 100 minutes outside of class and they have come up with their OWN plan on how to do that. I’ve been showing them how to use the planner better and to move things around. One of my favorite examples of this is from a student who couldn’t read 25 minutes straight one day, so he broke it up into 8 minutes here, 8 minutes there, and 9 minutes at the end of the day. I love it! Whatever gets them reading and works is SO a-okay. Another story is a student who told me she hadn’t read Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday even though it was in her planner. She looked so disappointed in herself. I told her not to worry and to just cross those days off and put the time down today, tomorrow, and Saturday. She did. Her smile came back. Yay!

The "I'm Determined" picture at the top of the page is for my students! I'm so proud of them ...

We've made our second quarter goals --- an academic goal, a behavior or friendship goal, and an independent reading goal.

Choice + Making a Plan can work wonders! One day, one book, one assignment at a time. Happy Second Quarter where we all start out with a fresh start!
All 88 personal narratives are corrected with comments included for all! Yay!! I'm proud of every single student!

Writer's Voice+Word Choice=Magic in Writing
Students are giving Book Talks this week and next week, and I'm so proud of their confidence and enthusiasm as they speak about their books. Students, keep reading and showing us your awesome selves! It's always a good day to be YOU!
I'm making a bulletin board of books my students are reading. If students are reading in class and at home, many books will be read this year. I love it!

Ask your child what book he or she is reading. :)

Thanks again for for all of your SUPPORT!
We will begin writing our Personal Narratives next week. The directions and grading rubric will be passed out Monday and Tuesday. Let the writing begin!!

The Library is Open!

I'm so happy that our library is open! All of my students have had the opportunity to go to the library to check out a book. Most students are as happy as I am to have the library open. :)

Our homework is to read an average of 20 or more minutes each evening whether it is written down in the planner or not! I'm reading Paper Towns by John Green and another book called Book Love ... by Penny Kittle. It is a book about inspiring students to develop stamina and passion for reading. (My Big Goal!) Some students tell me that they do not like to read, and I'm going to work to change their minds!!!!

For students who ordered from the book order, I just got word that the books have shipped and will be here by next week, Wednesday. I ordered a lot of new books for our class library because of your orders and am super excited to get them!

Thank you for all of your support. I appreciate it a lot ...

We've be writing our goals and expectations for the first quarter and year. Seventh grade students told me what they are grateful for and why, what they want to accomplish in reading and writing this year, and three things they can do in the classroom so that others can learn and do their best. Sixth graders wrote a language arts learning goal, a behavior goal, and a personal goal. I LOVE what all of my students wrote! Their words touched my heart, gave me ideas, and these wonderful students told me that they DO know what they need. Onward and upward for a terrific year!

It's a New Beginning

Welcome to our new school year! Every year I tell myself that I have another chance to get this job done right. :) Please contact me for concerns, suggestions, and questions. I love being a team with my students' families.

I'd like to invite you to our Open House on Wednesday, August 12th from 2:00 - 3:00. I'm looking forward to meeting you!

This is going to be the BEST YEAR EVER!

Aloha,
