2016-2017 = A Fantastic Year at Waikoloa Middle!

Dear Families and Students,
 
I am feeling really good about this school year! The sixth graders in my class are so excited to be in middle school, and my seventh graders are super happy to be back in school. When the parent TeacherEase emails are in the system, I will be writing regular updates on what we're doing in class. Please feel free to call or email me any time. Being a team with my students and their parents is very important to me. :)

I am so proud my homeroom and all of the sixth graders! Our Ho'olaulea was fabulous!  Everyone could see and hear all of the performances. What a beautiful job of setting this up.. Hats off to Lyn Campogan (PCNC) because she was HUGE in making this all work. Mahalo!
Out Middle School Family Night was a huge success! Here is Bella in the Trashion Show modeling the outfit she made. Wonderful, Bella!!

Wesley's Booktalk on Robin Hood

Wesley keeps us entertained as he gives his book talk on Robin Hood. Thank you, Wesley! We all agree that you're a future TED talk speaker!

THIS is why I let my students read in class every day! I may not reach every student in loving to read, but I know I've inspired many ... :) 

“Students will read if we give them the books, the time, and the enthusiastic encouragement to do so. If we make them wait for the one unit a year in which they are allowed to choose their own books and become readers, they may never read at all. To keep our students reading, we have to let them.” 

Our theme is CHANGE and how it is constant in our lives. Students worked in their teams and chose a quote about change, wrote what it meant, why the agreed or disagreed with it, and ended with a thesis statement. They were practicing team work and writing an introduction for an expository essay. Nice work, teams!
Waikoloa School's winners of the TeenBiz Contest!! I am so proud of the energy and persistence that my period three class demonstrated to reach this goal. So Proud!
Our school has officially started the Smarter Balanced Assessment! (Big State Test!) My students have their own "office" to work in and peace and quiet. I have so much confidence in these students! They ARE prepared and are working to do their very best.
