Aloha and welcome to Mr. Blackburn's First Grade class. Here's a little about me:
First off, I love my job!  I genuinely enjoy being a teacher and I appreciate the opportunity to play a small role in helping these kids on their journey through their education. This 2021/2022 school year will be my 11th year teaching first grade at Waikoloa Elementary.  Every year has been  amazing in so many different ways, and I expect this year to be amazing as well.  I have a wife and two kids who are my everything.  We love playing at the beach, going hiking or other outdoor adventures.  I enjoy running, yep, like actually "enjoy" it haha. I do most of my running around the village, but as often as I can, I love running the amazing trails we have on this beautiful island. Now you can tell your first grader that you know something about their teacher!
I really look forward to working with my new first graders this year. We will make the best of whatever this year brings our way. Mahalo for your support and an especially big Mahalo for all that you do for your child.
Mr. Blackburn

And they're off!!! We've got a long journey ahead. Read lots of books to paddle your teams canoe to victory. Who will make it around the island fastest?
Hopefully your child showed you this letter today. One more reading challenge to finish off the year! Read, read, read!
I got a fun surprise on my door today! Thank you all (students and parents) for the wonderful cards, poems, flowers, goodies and treats, and a "All About Mr. Blackburn" book. The best thing about being a teacher of course, is the SUPER kids I get to work with!
Here are a few more pictures from our field trip that another chaperone e-mailed to me.  Thanks again to all the chaperones for making it a fun success!
Last Friday we went to visit the tide pools at old Kona airport beach.  I had a fantastic time and I think the kids did too!  A great big mahalo to all the chaperones that accompanied us on this field trip.  With your help, the students were very successful in finding many different  sea creatures.  Thank you so much for leading the students on such a fun tide pool adventure!  I apologize that I forgot to bring a camera so I do not have pictures of most of the students.  One of our chaperones e-mailed me a few pictures from their group.  Check them out below. Also, don't forget we have one more field trip on May 10!
We were lucky to have a special guest sharing his expertise on ocean life and tide pools today. He even brought a few tide pool regulars that we may see on our field trip. The students had the opportunity to handle some of the creatures.
Next week is our field trip! We need permission forms and $ turned in by tomorrow. If you are unable to come up with the $7 please let me know and I will get it taken care of.
