First Grade with Mr. Blackburn 2025-2026
Welcome to our first-grade classroom!
I'm so excited to be your child's first grade teacher this year. Here's a little bit about me. This is my 15th year teaching first grade here at Waikoloa Elementary School, and my passion for helping young learners grow has only gotten stronger over time. The best part of my job is seeing a child's eyes light up when they finally master a new skill or concept.
I have a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Western Oregon University and a Master's degree in Teaching from Willamette University. My education has given me a strong foundation for understanding how children learn and develop and I really believe that teaching kids is my calling.
This community is important to me, as I live right here in Waikoloa Village, and I love having the opportunity to work with the kids in our community. When I'm not in the classroom, I love spending time with my own two amazing children who are growing up way too fast! I also enjoy staying active and being outdoors. You can often find me running on the roads or out on the trails, hiking, or mountain biking. I love living in Hawaii where I'm able to spend so much time at the beach. I've been trying to learn a new hobby, skimboarding. Progress is slow, but it's fun!
I'm looking forward to a great year of learning and discovery with your children. Please don't hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
