A Little About Me and Important Classroom Information
Aloha everyone!
My name is David Deuchler and I'm the 8th Grade U.S History teacher here at Waikoloa Elementary/Middle School.
I'm also teaching a new course for the year called Introduction to Technical Skills - A class designed to introduce students to a variety of technical fields.
My Personal Background: Originally my family and I are from Ocean County, New Jersey; near Long Beach Island. Although not originally from Hawaii, my family and I moved to Waikoloa in June of 2023. We are current residents in the neighborhood, so we're bound to run into each other now and again!
My Educational Background: I received my associates degree in liberal arts from Ocean County Community College. After my two year degree, I continued my undergrad at Kean University where I obtained my bachelors degree in history with teacher certification. I graduated summa cum laude in 2011. Since then, I have taught for 13 years in NJ public schools, and now this is my 3rd year in Hawaii's public education system.
Why Hawaii?: Moving from NJ to Hawaii was a huge move! So why? Well, obviously Hawaii is arguably the most beautiful place in the whole world to live. It offers so many things that I find truly special. From its amazing beaches, to the perfect year-round weather, to the amazing hikes, and aloha vibes. Truly this place is so special. As I live here longer and experience its unique culture as well, I'm ever more certain that I made the right choice to call this place home. In addition to all of this, some personal reasons also made me want to try to live here as well. My father passed at an earlier age, right before he could retire. COVID brought about an additional reality as well that life is fragile. Unpredictable. You can't say for certain what tomorrow will bring. So, for me, I wanted to try and chase this dream if getting an opportunity. I don't want any what ifs when I look back on life, nor do I know what the future will hold. So here I am!
Some Hobbies and Interests of Mine: Some things that I enjoy outside of the classroom include: Spending time with my family. Swimming, snorkeling, pretty much all water sports activities. Hiking, exploring, and spending time in nature. Exercise and weight training. Traveling! Working on my house and all different kinds of home projects. Astronomy and photography. Sports cars of all eras. I love a good video game as well when I have the time.
Important Classroom Related Information
Below are some important foundational classroom documents that I would like to share with you all. These documents will be printed and distributed to each student at the beginning of the school year. However, they will also be posted here for the whole school year if you need to return and view them for whatever reason.
