A group from our class is working on the door decorating contest for Pi Day. What a fun day! We had games, decorated our door, wrote Piku poems, had an assembly, got to eat pie, and the whole middle school lined up in "Pi" number order. What a perfect way to end our 3rd quarter. Happy Spring Break, everyone!

Rory, Aaron, and Keona working as a team discussing the correct argument or overarching claim from several examples of the beginning of argumentative essays. We're getting ready to write our essays soon! I have a few points to teach them and examples to show and then we are off ...

The seventh graders are going to write an argumentative essay about whether we should "shut down our screens for a week," so we're learning the history, benefits, detriments, and uses for some popular social media sites. Students will also have three articles to use for their essay. I want to give them plenty of background information so they can come up with good thesis statements, claims, and counter claims in their essays. They'll need plenty of facts to prove their argument ...

My sixth and seventh grade students gave a book talk on a book that they read during second quarter. They drew a visual and I made a collage bulletin board of the pictures. Please continue to support reading at home! I have one student who has gotten over the hump of not enjoying reading to LOVING it! It happens by not giving up and to keep - on - reading. The magic book that will move reluctant readers to loving reading will come to those who keep reading. I promise!

I just finished a fantastic middle/high/adult book called QB 1 by Mike Lupica. This is a FANTASTIC book about football, siblings, family, and friends. The main character, Jake, is such a positive role model for all of us.

So, if your son or daughter wants a great book, please consider QB 1 by Mike Lupica. :) You don't have to enjoy football to like the book. It is a book for anyone who likes a good story.

I LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!!!

#GoSeahawks !!!!!!!!! (Yes, this book even got me watching more football!)

Anthony and Keoni Jamming

Anthony Singh and Keoni Sigrah sang a song for the middle school. What great talent they have! Very proud of these boys!

After taking a reading assessment, Micah DeMattos sat at the back table to read his book, and he created his own private reading-cave all to himself. Love this age ... so fun! So clever! So full of surprises ... :)

These are some of our amazing Team-Work-Glad-Strategy-Team-Task Posters!! These posters will be 60% of each student's overall grade for the project. A written reflection of answering four reflective/justification questions will be the other 40%. I like how this grading is going! Each assignment has a rubric given to the students before they do the work. They know exactly what is expected. :)
