Mahalo!

Circle Time Next Week!

April 2, 2020

Aloha, Parents!

I hope this message finds you healthy.

Next week’s learning materials will be mailed to ALL second grade students.  At this time, the learning materials are being provided by the Department of Education’s Office of Curriculum Instruction and Design.  Please remember that students will not be graded on their at-home work whether it be a packet or online learning. The district and teachers just want to provide you with resources for at home learning and give you feedback on that work, if you so choose.

Beginning Monday, April 6th, I’m going to begin an online Circle Time for twenty minutes per day.  For the first week, we will meet from 11:30 a.m. to 11:50 each day, except for Good Friday. The sole purpose of Circle Time is for students to socialize with each other and discuss how they’re spending their time.  I understand that families may be sharing online devices, since some parents are working from home. Other families have multiple siblings in the house that makes it necessary to share. Therefore, it is not mandatory that students join for Circle Time each day.  However, I hope your son/daughter can participate in at least one a week, so that I can see their beautiful faces and they can share with their friends.

The Webex meeting site is https://hidoe.webex.com/meet/haldridge. The site is very easy to use. Simply type in the above address and follow the prompts to join the meeting at the scheduled time.  I will post a quick video of how to join the meeting under the Class Story tab. Resource teachers will also be scheduling voluntary Webex meetings with students in the upcoming week(s).

Third quarter report cards will also be mailed home next week.  If you have any questions/concerns or if I can help you in any way during these difficult and strange times, please don’t hesitate to contact me on my cell (618) 304-6024, through Class Dojo, or by email [email protected].  Stay safe!

Mahalo,

Heather Aldridge

2nd Grade Learning Packet 3_30-4_3_2020 (1)

March 30, 2020

March 30 - April 3, 2020 Packet

Aloha 2nd Grade ‘Ohana,

We hope everyone is doing well. In the link above you will find a packet of work for this week. The packet will not be returned to teachers until we return back to school.
The district is working to provide children a laptop, if needed, in the upcoming weeks. The laptops are being cleaned and we are waiting to see if this will be possible. Spectrum is offering free wifi to students/families currently without service. Please call Spectrum and sign up for a free account if you qualify.
Some families are already connected and learning online. The school website has our learning websites and other resources listed for easy login on this site.  You will use the tab online links. Our email information is listed below if you need your child’s login codes. If you have a computer and wifi, we would
highly suggest that students continue with the learning programs that we use in the classroom: Moby Max, Smarty Ants, Prodigy, Imagine Learning, and Achieve. As you will see in the packet, you can also check out ebooks from Waikoloa Elementary for home reading.

If you have any questions, please email your child’s teacher.

Be Safe,

2nd Grade Teachers

Online learning during school closing

Aloha, Second Grade Ohana!

I wanted to touch base with you before we begin our online learning.  Tomorrow morning our school staff will have a virtual meeting to discuss how we will proceed in the weeks to come.  I miss the students and want them to know that I'm here for them and you also.  I have been preparing some materials and resources for you at home.  Please stay tuned for more information.  If you haven't already, please register for Class Dojo, as I will be posting information there also.  Mahalo for your patience and understanding during these difficult times.

Your partner in education,

Heather Aldridge

Second quarter report cards will go out on Jan. 16th in Thursday Envelopes.

Also on Jan.16th, we will go on our field trip to 'Imiloa Astronomy Center in Hilo.  Please make sure your child is on time to school.  Students will need to bring a sack lunch, water, a jacket.  Mahalo!
