We are Volcanoes!

We got the privilege of learning from Uncle Dave all about plate tectonics and Volcanoes. Who won? Boys or Girls?
(Post number 2 today) Beaming proud after creating an arch out of clay. The students practice their landforms in a very hands-on way.
FUNDRAISER! Help us raise some funds to help cool our school, get more supplies, and even money for field trips! Your child brought home a packet explaining everything today. All orders are DUE OCTOBER 1st, so it's a quick one!

Open house thank you!

It was a pleasure meeting all of you yesterday! Thank you so much for coming to our open house, it was so much fun watching the kids show you around every thing that they get to do all day every day.

As a reminder, please sign up for the app Remind! There seems to be some sort of glitch currently, if you are having trouble signing up, click on this link instead. Hopefully it will work.

Open house and hurricane watch

Well, we have certainly had an interesting start to the school year! Just a heads up on the happenings of this week: tomorrow on Tuesday, I am out due to a meeting. The substitute is a wonderful woman, but please remind your students how to behave for a guest teacher.

Also, it seems that mother nature doesn’t really want us to have an open house this year. If everything goes according to plan, open house has been rescheduled to this Wednesday! Let’s hope Olivia doesn’t hit us too hard.

Let’s have a wonderful week fourth graders!

Slack Key performance

Today we got the pleasure of listening to amazing musicians play ukulele, and steel guitar. Ask your student what their favorite part was!

It's going to be a FANTASTIC year!

A new beginning...

Also parents of past students! I. Am soon going to "delete" you so you no longer receive updates from me. Don't forget to sign up for your child's current teacher's blog!

some ending business: I have finished uploading all of the pictures I had from last year. Look for the 2017-2018 album for those. I hope your child has another fantastic year!

Always,

Today we said goodbye to one of our classmates as he is leaving the year early! To Efrain, we say, "Adios!" And we'll see you next year!

What do our kids see?

Parents,
This is a solemn post today. While interacting with your students, and trying to enforce the importance of paying attention, following their dreams, and doing what is important, I have noticed a sad trend. This comes up more around conference time, as I beg the students to get you, the parent, to come be a participant in their education.
Now, this is not EVERY parent, nor has EVERY child said this to me. But as parents (myself included), we need to see the adult model that we are presenting to our children.

These past few years I have heard many things that makes me think about my own parenting: Students who say things to me like, "I wish my parents knew my teachers. Like, I wish they would come to conferences and open house night," or "My mom didn't sign the paper because she was watching a movie on her phone, like always."

I do understand that reality vs. what they 10 year old perceives can be very different things, but remember: What your child perceives is their reality.

Have conversations with your kids. Do you know what is important to them? Do you know how they see you? Do you know what their teachers think of them? Do you know their favorite subject?

A poll was done a few years ago with a certain elementary school grade: "What do you wish your parents would do more?" Over 80% said, "Put down their phones and play with me. "

Thank you for being involved, supportive, and the amazing parents that I know you are!

We had another talk from Uncle Dave all about Hurricanes. Be on the lookout for these important resources coming home today!
