Oct. 1, 2015

Aloha Parents/Guardians,

On September 14, 2015 the Waikoloa School Community Council, or SCC, met and approved a revised dress code for Waikoloa Elementary & Middle School to begin immediate implementation.  We have decided to share it with families and begin full implementation effective October 12, 2015.

Please review the attached dress code and make note of the revisions for various grade levels.  The changes are indicated in italics.

We appreciate your continued support to create a learning environment that helps to focus students on learning.  Additionally it helps our students learn to “dress for success” as they enter the world of work.

Sincerely,

Waikoloa School Community Council

And

Waikoloa Administrative Team

School Dress Standards:

At WEMS we promote dress standards that develop an understanding of the importance to dress for career readiness. “Dress for Success!”  These dress standards have been developed universally for all students.

Grades 6-8 Dress Standards:

·      Head is uncovered when a student is indoors (classroom, cafeteria, library, or office)

·      Clothing or apparel does not promote, suggestion, or display a picture of alcohol, drugs, profanity, violence, or of a sexual nature

·      Shirts or tops have backs, cover cleavage, and have straps that are at least 1 inch wide and fully cover undergarments, and are long enough to cover the midriff at all times.  Racer back tank styles are acceptable as long as no undergarments are exposed.

·      Undergarments, or clothing worn like undergarments (ie bandeau), are completely hidden under clothing.

·      Shorts and skirt hems must reach or exceed the fingertips when arms are held straight at one’s side at all times.

·      Heel height is to be 2 inches or less. Closed-toed shoes are encouraged on PE days and on all field trips.

·      Jewelry size & weight needs to be appropriate for all school activities avoiding heavy chains, pendants and dangling accessories.

·      No student will be allowed to have any piercings other than on the ears.  (Please limit gages to less than 2mm)

·      For makeup, only clear lip-gloss is allowed.

·      Avoid heavy perfume or cologne including spray on deodorants.
